On April 25th, our chancel choir took part in the first annual Murfreesboro Area Sacred Choral Festival. Our choir joined with choirs from six other area churches to form a 175 voice choir. WOW!!! What an experience! The voices echoing in the sanctuary of Murfreesboro First UMC was beautiful.
The concert began with each choir presenting a solo selection. Our choir sang, "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name." This is a beautiful piece in and of itself, but in that setting it was almost angelic.
Our choir was by far the smallest there, with only nine members participating. When the concert was over, I heard from so many in attendance about how well such a small choir could sound. I even got a phone call the next day from a pastor in Lynchburg who was there to hear his son from Trinity UMC sing. He and his wife were very impressed.
I am very proud of the members of the choir at Smyrna First. Their dedication to the choir and their willingness to participate in an event that takes time out of their weekend should be applauded.
I was worried earlier that morning about how our small choir would sound in such a large sanctuary. I was almost to the point of backing out of the festival. But a friend told me just to "let go and let God." That is what I did. And He was there in the sanctuary that night. He was there in an evening of beautiful music. I hope that next year you, too, can be there.
