Handyman Service

Beginning in November, Smyrna First is starting a Handyman Service to help those who have tasks they can't do themselves.  Don't be afraid to call the Church for things you need some help with.  Talk to Bro. Joe and he will setup a time when the Church will do that for you.  If the task is too large for us to handle, we will let you know, but don't be reluctant to call, 459-2826.

Doing Good Works!

Doing Good Works! is a simple and clear action plan for ordinary people who want to make extraordinary things happen. There are hundreds of ways to do little things that will make big differences.

*Ask the kids in your life what they would like to learn more than anything else. Then, do your best to get them started.

*Stop yourself the next time you start to criticize someone else and pay that person a compliment instead.

*The next time you find yourself criticizing someone's plan or dream, stop yourself. Re-focus and try to help your friend come up with ways to make it work.

*Keep track of the number of times you can make people smile in a day. Try on a regular basis to beat your own numbers

*Think of a cause or group that makes you feel deep sympathy and compassion (children, animals, the elderly, victims of crime, the poor). Go visit them and get involved or contribute to that cause in some way...today.

*Name one person who stood by you during one of the worst times of your life. Now pick up the phone and call them...right now. Thank that person.

*Identify a person who is facing a special challenge in your home or in your workplace. Write and deliver them an encouraging note--right now.

*Surprise yourself. Compliment someone's tattoo or piercings.

*Give money to the next beggar you meet on the street.

*Write a note and compliment an ethical bureaucrat or a helpful government worker, and deliver it to them with a copy to their boss.

*Visit a nursing home and say hello to the elderly.

Is this all????? This is just the beginning.  Brian Douglas has written a book. Doing Good Works! and there's plenty more in it.

Doing Good Works! re-awakens the awareness of the good in doing good. It teaches you not to horde your health and vitality to yourself if you are blessed enough to have it.

Go out and do some good. Then you decide who it helped.
