I have always loved reading. When I was in the fifth grade, my teacher, Mrs. Ratcliff began reading a chapter from the Hardy Boy’s mystery series. The book was called “The Wailing Siren Mystery.” My problem was that she would only read one chapter each day. I had to get to the ending. So, I went out and bought the book and read it all the way through. After that, I began buying every book in the series. I think I read something like thirty-eight books. I still have the set. I also loved reading a set of sports books called “The Bronc Burnett Series.”
I will be turning 60 in the next couple of months and after some 50 years I still love to read before I go to bed at night. Unfortunately, I tend to read two or three hours which makes a short night of it. But, I’ve just got to get to the end of the book. Now, I’m still into mysteries, adventure and crime novels like Clive Cussler, Steve Martini, Philip Margolin, John Grisham, Lee Child, and David Baldacci. And, I know there are so many other good authors out there and I would love to read their stuff. But, what stops me is their use of profanity. It just doesn’t add anything to the plot. Also, I just don’t like those words filling up my mind. So, I’m becoming rather particular about what I read now. Hopefully, there are some other authors out there that I can find that will take me to some place for adventure or into a courtroom where a major case is being played out. If all else fails, I guess I can go back and reread the Hardy Boys. At least, I don’t have to look at words of profanity. What a refreshing read that would be.
