Have you noticed that the weather has been in the news a great deal lately? Many states in the eastern part of our nation have been overpowered with snow. People have gone days without electricity. It’s not been an easy winter for many folks. We’ve had it pretty easy here in our area. We haven’t had much snow. But, it has been cold, very cold. I’ve heard people say, “I’m tired of this cold weather.” “I wish spring would get here.” “Is it never going to stop being cold.” My guess is we’ve still got some cold weather ahead of us before Easter.
But, there are a few signs that spring is around the corner. A few trees are budding with the color of red. The birds are chirping. Some daffodils and crocuses are starting to bloom. Butterflies begin to show up everywhere. There are duck flights and owls hooting and woodpeckers drumming and frogs croaking. Robins will soon be in your yard prospecting for worms. Starlings will try their best to get through the open doors of your bird houses. And, then there are those evening concerts by spring peepers that tell you the ground is starting to thaw and spring can’t be far behind. And, if that’s not enough there is the fresh smell of grass.
But, what I love most about spring is that it gives me hope. Hope of getting some of those long delayed projects finally completed. Hope of blue skies and lots of sunshine. Hope of much warmer weather. Hope of getting out of the house and walking and working around the yard. And, hope that one day, every day will be Easter and that we will have become a little more like Jesus.
